Chosing a Lover
A number of years ago two lovers were attending my 1201 Freshman Chemistry class. They sat in the back and talked to each other throughout my lectures and didn't learn much chemistry. I didn't have a problem with that because let's face it, love is more important than chemistry. What I found curious about them was this. During quizzes they would cheat and then laugh together because they believed that they were outsmarting me. I guess they just felt they were very cleaver people. After all cheating on a chem quiz is OK because it was the professor's fault they didn't understand . It wasn't their fault. They were the good guys. What they did not realize as they cheated together was that they were each witnessing the true nature of their partner.

You see no matter how strong the relationship there will always be tough times in life when things do not go well. It is at that point when people who can justify cheating in school consider cheating on each other. These students were reveiling their true nature during the quiz. But neither recognized the significance of what they were doing.

Human beings are very good at justifying to themselves why their actions are valid. It's OK for me to cheat on the test because ..., It's OK for me to cut someone off in traffic because...., it's OK for me to be unkind to a stranger because..., It's OK for me to cheat on my lover because....

Watch closely how your lover behaves today. The signs of future behavior are there. Are they more likely to cut someone off in traffic or give their last dollar to a stranger? That's an indication of how YOU may be treated when things are not quite so rosy.
